Welcome to the About Us page for Theatre of Arts! We are a college for the contemporary actor, and at the cutting edge of current practice in actor training for multi-media. We limit class sizes as a conservatory to ensure more individualized instruction and attention. Each student receives 700 hours on-camera study for our 2yr. program and 500 hours of on-camera study for the 1yr. program. We utilize a variety of disciplines that draw from the techniques and contributions of major practitioners. The vibrancy and innovations of contemporary practice combine with the strengths of classical drama training for a thorough education. A well-rounded curriculum provides students with the best of both worlds and a unique perspective to the art.
Theatre of Arts originally began in 1930 as Ben Bard Drama. Created by Ben Bard, with support from his wife, his school quickly became the premiere acting school.
Highly experienced, working professional actors in the heart of the entertainment industry comprises our faculty. In order to draw out the best in students, our instructors possess the expertise, qualifications, and enthusiasm to motivate. With inspiration from our teachers, students learn to realize authentic performance experiences needed for casting calls and also auditions.
Arena Stage & Cinema
Theatre of Arts‘ Arena Stage & Cinema is a performance venue for theater productions that facilitate the opportunity to showcase student progress. Students often perform in the presence of casting directors, agents and other industry professionals. In addition, our Arena Stage & Cinema is a first run commercial venue. For the theatrical exhibition of independent film distribution, Arena Cinema is recognized as the premiere showcase. It includes companies such as Sony, IFC Films, Tribeca Film, Breaking Glass Pictures, First Run Features and more. Arena Cinema, in conjunction with Voltaire Media, combine to allow students to create and maintain a professional network. Students learn to develop relationships with casting directors, producers, directors, fellow actors and mentors while earning a degree based on a foundation of relevant, real-world education.
